New Hall

Admission criteria:

• Males aged between 18-64 yrs who have a primary diagnosis of severe and enduring mental illness / mental disorder.
• All persons must have a primary diagnosis of mental illness and be liable to be detained under the Mental Health Act.

Exclusion criteria:

• Patients in an acute, disturbed phase of their mental disorder who need specific management arrangements for a short period of time. Following initial intervention these patients may then be appropriate for admission.
• Patients with a primary diagnosis of acquired brain injury and or Learning Disability.

By adopting the concept of recovery and a person centred approach, patients are rehabilitated to their optimum level of functioning.
Support and treatment is designed to:

• Assess diagnosis and formulate appropriate treatment options.
• Achieve and demonstrate reduction in symptomology and risk behaviours.
• Maintain and promote mental health, physical health and well-being.
• Promote the development of both social and adaptive skills leading towards independence, recovery and autonomy.
• Provide teaching and information to promote insight, coping strategies and relapse prevention strategies.

Recovery is an active process. The team work with patients to enable them to adapt to living with their mental health, and as part of this, work collaboratively with patients and their families to instil and maintain hope.
New Hall provides an environment in which patients are involved in all aspects of their support, as well as providing a positive, therapeutic placement with quality treatment interventions delivered as determined on an individual needs basis.
This will be achieved through therapeutic engagement, individually or in group settings, and utilising all resources. Additionally, New Hall focuses on discharge at the point of admission, with identified milestones to ensure the length of stay is kept to a minimum. The average length of stay is 18 months.

Situated within walking distance of the village of Ruabon and 5 miles from Wrexham, the largest town in North Wales, New Hall benefits from all the local communities have to offer. In the heart of Ruabon there is a small supermarket, fish & chip shop, café, bakery, library, bank, post office and newsagents.
Wrexham has a number of retail and country parks, sports and leisure facilities, colleges and home to Wrexham Football Club-The stadium is a regular host to music and comedy events. 9 miles away is Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the world’s tallest canal boat crossing and World Heritage Site.

New Hall is easily accessible via main road, rail and bus networks.

John Bromfield, Hospital Manager

John has worked in the mental health field for over 20 years having qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 1997. He has held a number of senior posts including; Ward Manager, Modern Matron, Specialist Clinical Service Manager, Head of Nursing and Clinical Services and most recently Hospital Manager at New Hall. John holds a number of clinical and managerial qualifications including all the key Gold Standard Forensic Risk Assessments and a Master’s in Business Administration.
